Leica M11: Hamburg
Before our expedition ship voyage with Hurtigruten Expeditions to the North Cap, we spent another night in Hamburg. Here are a few impressions of the Speicherstadt, the harbour and the Elbphilharmonie, captured with the Leica M11 and the Summicron 35mm f/2.0.
The Bokeh Painter - Sony FE 400mm F2,8 GM OSS
There are some Sony fixed focal lengths that are already legendary, such as the 135mm f/1.8 GM or the new 50mm f/1.2 GM. In my opinion, the Sony FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS pushes into completely new spheres.
Botswana - one week to go - the gear is ready!
After long weeks of optimization my photo and film equipment for Botswana is finally ready. When flying to Africa the size of the equipment is always a compromise between professional demand and allowed weight. In Botswana the small planes always have a weight limit and I always have too much weight...personally and in the bag ;-)
Leica Summilux-R 50mm f 1.4 with Leica M10-P
Today I tested a Leica lens from the 80s with my Leica M10-P - The Leica Summilux-R 50mm f 1.4 with a corresponding R to M adapter. Since the lens is not coded and the inexpensive adapter does not allow focusing through the rangefinder, correct focusing is only possible using focus peaking via Live View.
One Lens - One Week: Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR
Last year I bought some lenses with fixed focal lengths, which in my opinion are currently among the best lenses on the market. They are lenses that all create a special character in the image resolution and color rendering and are also fun to photograph with. At the beginning of the year 2022, I have therefore set myself a challenge.
TTArtisan vintage manual lenses - The holy trinity for the Fujifilm X-Series
TTArtisan has only been around since 2019, but in those two years they've created quite a buzz with their affordable, manual fixed-focus lenses. At first there were only M-mount lenses, but in the meantime there are also APS-C lenses with a mount for Fujifilm X-series cameras. I took a closer look at the three small lenses with focal lengths of 17mm, 35mm and 50mm. Mind you - these three fast lenses together cost less than 250 USD!
Triumph Bonneville Bud Ekins Special Edition
He was a Hollywood stuntman and one of the world‘s greatest motocross and desert racers – Bud Ekins. The native Californian became immortal as a stunt double of his friend Steve McQueen in the 1962 Hollywood classic „Broken Chains“.
Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone
I finally found the best shotgun microphone for interviews for my Blackmagic 6K Pro - the Sennheiser MKE 600. After various tests and YouTube videos, the decision was relatively easy compared to the Rode NTG4+.
Blackmagic 6K Pro - Rigged up!
I finally received the Professional Accessory Kit from SmallRig for my Blackmagic 6K Pro yesterday. In the following pictures you can see how it looks assembled.
YEEESSS!!!
Today is my personal Fujifilm Black Friday! Finally, my GFX100S and GF 80mm f/1.7 arrived today. The weekend may come...
The Crop Master - a tribute to the Fujifilm GFX50R
As announced in the last blog entry I have ordered the GFX100S, which will hopefully be delivered at the beginning of March. I've been working with the GFX50R for over two years - now the GFX50R has found a new happy owner. Time for a tribute to the medium format Crop Master.
All In - Fujifilm GFX100S
When Fujifilm presented the brand new Fujifilm GFX100S medium format camera at the online press conference on 27 January 2021, it was clear to me that I would be following an all-in strategy with Fujifilm Medium Format in the future.
The black sheep - Fujifilm X-S10
My history with Fujifilm began in 2012 when the first, revolutionary X-Pro1 was released. A mirrorless camera with a hybrid viewfinder and a fantastic concept of the original Fujifilm film simulation. I claim that this camera has completely changed my photography so far.
The revelation - Fujinon GF110mm f/2.0
Fujifilm has revolutionised the medium format. There is no other brand that offers a similar range at the price level of a high-end full-frame camera. While Hasselblad, Phase One and Leica still offer medium format cameras at astronomical prices, Fujifilm recognized the signs of the times - medium format suitable for the masses - attractive in terms of quality and price.
DJI Ronin RSC 2: My new Gimbal Setup for the Sony A7S3
While the DJI RSC 2 looks strikingly similar to my old Ronin-SC, there are some key design differences when you compare the two DJI gimbals. The two most noticeable improvements to the DJI RSC 2 are foldability and a new 1-inch OLED screen. The overall design of the DJI RSC 2 gimbal has been further improved and is now even more user-friendly.
Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 Art L-Mount with Leica SL
With the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art, Sigma once again presents a top lens for Sony E and Leica L-Mount. The fast standard zoom has impressed me (on the Leica SL) with its high resolution and sharpness, it is definitely recommended for demanding landscape or product photography.
Vintage Lenses on Digital Body: Leica Summilux R 50mm f/1.4 on Fujifilm X-Pro 3
One of the best 50mm vintage lenses Leica ever made. Period. The contrast at full aperture is significantly higher than the any 50mm f/1.4 - and i know many of them….The bokeh is creamy and out of this world. The focus is buttery smooth.
Vintage Lenses on Digital Body: Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm f 1.2 on Fujifilm X-Pro 3
The Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm f 1.2 lens is mainly known for its beautiful bokeh, the other performance is comparable to other 50s lenses, i.e. at open aperture relatively unsteady bokeh and overexposure, at f/2 it is great for portraits and at f8 it delivers perfect landscape shots.
