Botswana - one week to go - the gear is ready!
After long weeks of optimization my photo and film equipment for Botswana is finally ready. When flying to Africa the size of the equipment is always a compromise between professional demand and allowed weight. In Botswana the small planes always have a weight limit and I always have too much weight...personally and in the bag ;-)
See what lies beyond - Phinda Game Reserve, KwaZulu-Natal
With it's temperate climate, ease of access, variety of Big 5 Reserves and incredible beaches travelers are fast adding KwaZulu-Natal to their itinerary. No where else in South Africa can one enjoy such a variety of Bush & Beach Big 5 Safaris. The last time we visited South Africa in February 2020, we explored KwaZulu-Natal for the first time and we were thrilled. This region near Durban has to fight at the moment unfortunately with enormous floods and vilene victims as well as at times with unrest.

The light collector - Sony FE 400mm f2.8 GM OSS
After using the Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS in Namibia in 2019, I replaced it in 2020 with the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS, which was used in South Africa in February 2020. Both lenses did not convince me 100%. Therefore, I have now purchased the Sony FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS.

Flashback: Low-Res challenge in the bush
In December 2009, a little more than 10 years ago, I was in South Africa for the first time. At that time I was still a Nikon Fan-Boy and my first full frame camera, the Nikon D700, had to go into the bush. At that time, 12.9 megapixels was the highest of feelings.
