Kalahari Essentials!
Tomorrow evening we will fly to Botswana for the second time within a year. Last year we roamed the Okavango Delta and this time we are going for almost two weeks to the southern Kalahari. Afterwards we fly for a week to Zimbabwe to Victoria Falls and Mana Pools region - a very special place! To document the trip again photographically and cinematically, I have packed my most important hardware - The Kalahari Essentials!
Botswana’s Kalahari Desert is one of its lesser known wilderness jewels. The Kalahari Desert is vast interior plateau, covering a large portion of southern Africa, encompassing almost all of Botswana, approximately one third of neighbouring Namibia and a large portion of the Northern Cape province of South Africa to the south. Receiving less than 250 mm of rainfall per year, the Kalahari region is a desert, characterised by a landscape of gently undulating topography at approximately 900 metres above sea level. There’s a huge list of animals that live in this semi-arid region spanning across parts of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Some of the animals that make up the Kalahari desert population include lions, meerkats, giraffes, warthogs, jackals, baboons, antelope of all variations (eland, gemsbok, springbok, steenbok, kudu and hartebeest), various reptile species and more!

Morgen Abend werden wir zum zweiten Mal innerhalb eines Jahres nach Botswana fliegen. Letztes Jahr haben wir das Okavango-Delta durchstreift und dieses Mal geht es für fast zwei Wochen in die südliche Kalahari. Anschließend fliegen wir für eine Woche nach Simbabwe zu den Victoriafällen und in die Mana Pools Region - ein ganz besonderer Ort! Um die Reise wieder fotografisch und filmisch zu dokumentieren, habe ich meine wichtigste Ausrüstung eingepackt - Die Kalahari Essentials!
Die Kalahari-Wüste in Botswana ist eines der weniger bekannten Wildnisjuwelen des Landes. Die Kalahari-Wüste ist eine riesige Hochebene im Landesinneren, die einen großen Teil des südlichen Afrikas einnimmt und fast ganz Botswana, etwa ein Drittel des benachbarten Namibia und einen großen Teil der südafrikanischen Provinz Nordkap umfasst. Mit weniger als 250 mm Niederschlag pro Jahr ist die Kalahari eine Wüste, die sich durch eine sanft gewellte Topografie auf einer Höhe von etwa 900 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel auszeichnet. In dieser halbtrockenen Region, die sich über Teile Botswanas, Namibias und Südafrikas erstreckt, gibt es eine Vielzahl von Tieren. Zu den Tieren, die die Kalahari-Wüste bevölkern, gehören Löwen, Erdmännchen, Giraffen, Warzenschweine, Schakale, Paviane, Antilopen in allen Variationen (Elenantilope, Gemsbock, Springbock, Steinbock, Kudu und Kuhantilope), verschiedene Reptilienarten und vieles mehr!
